The river Cetina, also called “Eye of the Earth”, is a tourist attraction due to its characteristic shape.
The upper reaches of the more than 100 km long river Cetina, which flows into the Adriatic Sea, is a small reservoir whose source is in Milasevo, near the village of Cetina. The Cetina is the most water-rich river in Dalmatia and flows at the foot of the Dirana, the highest mountain range in Croatia.
This pool has a depth of 150 m and blue and turquoise water. Viewed from above, it attracts visitors at first sight when it looks like a mysterious blue eye. For this reason, this upper estuary of the river Cetina is also called “Eye of the Earth”.
This small body of water is very clear and a favorite dive site for many adventure travelers. The divers reached a depth of 115 m and according to their description, the underwater landscape is of indescribable beauty.
There are many legends surrounding the “Earth’s Eye”. One of them is the myth of a fairy named Cetina who has the ability to control whales. One day, thousands of years ago, Cetina was deceived by Zeus and burst into tears. Her tears flowed forever, flowed forever, forming the river that bears her name today. Exhausted from crying, Cetina turned to stone. That is why people used the name of the fairy to name the river. Locals believe that the barren woman will soon give birth to children just by bathing in the river, that is, in her tears.
Today, visitors can see the “Eye of the Earth” from the town of Vrlika, which is 7 km from the village of Cetina.
